Reality check: Real estate investing isn’t always easy or fun!
Fear. Overwhelm. Tough Times. Distractions. Procrastination.
Financing. Difficult Tenants. Home Repairs. Difficult neighbours.
The list of reasons/excuses for not getting into real estate investments is endless! Some days the challenges seem insurmountable. But as the saying goes, “if it was easy, everyone would be doing it.”
So how do we justify the hard work? We are truly privileged to be working with and learning with some incredible investors. This weekend, we will be connecting with the REIN (Real Estate Intelligence Network) community. Having good mentors and teachers is critical! We also seek out good partners in the trades and financing communities. We are learning more and more about business systems and standard operating procedures to deal with some of the common problems with being a Rental Housing Provider.
And of course, when we have those difficult days (apparently a normal part of LIFE!), we remember WHY we are working hard to solve problems. The temptation to quit is quickly mitigated when we re-focus on what our vision of success will look like. What is the alternative? Just surviving paycheque to paycheque—and “hoping” you don’t get laid off one day? That sure doesn’t sound like a good plan. Investing in mutual funds so the “experts” can manage our money—oh yes, and charge a hefty fee? That’s not our first choice either.
So, truth be told: it’s not all rainbows, roses and unicorns in the real estate investing game. I don’t imagine that it would be easy to become an Olympian either. Worthy and amazing goals require commitment and hard work. Our WHY, our vision for the family’s future, is powerful enough to keep us motivated, working hard and moving forward. Our strong will to succeed and thrive is strong enough to help us power through the challenges and obstacles. No more excuses! Want to join us?
