WHAT SCARES YOU ?!?
Trick or Treat! Trump or Biden? The girl or the ghost in the picture? Spiders or zombies? What scares you?
Halloween is both a strange and a wonderful occasion where we bring scary things out into the open. Some would even say that we celebrate scary creatures! Even very little children will put on a costume that represents something that would otherwise scare them.
So it seems only fitting to bring those real estate investing fears out into the open this week!
What really scares you about investing in a property? Tenants? 2 am Toilet calls? Fighting with insurance companies? Losing capital? Dealing with CRA? Let’s bring it all out into the open! If something is preventing you from getting started, or growing your portfolio, what is it? Or how many things is it?
You may find that you need to dig for the answer. Maybe a brainstorming session, or bouncing it off a trusted friend will help with this. You may even ask, “Why does this exercise matter—can’t I just sit on my couch and enjoy a few Halloween candies?”
Because bringing those fears out into the open will help you deal with them and move on or move forward. When the streets are full of witches, ghosts, and vampires—they don’t really look that scary anymore.
Shining a bright light on your real estate investing fears will have a similar result. If tenants scare the wits out of you—is that a solvable problem? Could you hire a property manager to deal with that problem for you? Could you work with a partner who will deal with all of those 2 am toilet calls you are worrying about? Could you invest with RRSP’s or Private lending for a fixed rate of return? In this case, you simply receive a solid return on your capital—no work involved!
Some people will figure out their fears, and figure out a way to move forward. Other people will admit they are “deathly” afraid of X, Y, Z real estate investing story—and they will choose to invest in stocks, or something else. Both are good solid solutions that grow your financial freedom and get you un-stuck.
This Halloween is extra special! No, I’m not talking Covid—thankfully! This Halloween is a Blue Moon. It’s the first Blue Moon visible around the entire globe since World War II (1944). As you look up into the night sky tomorrow, let that bright light remind you to shine a light on your fears!
