A GLANCE BACK AT 2020, with GRATITUDE
Holiday expectations have been turned on their heads this year!
But maybe that’s okay. Maybe that’s even a gift in disguise?!
2020 means fewer work, social and family commitments. Rather than running around and keeping a jam-packed schedule—we can really enjoy this holiday season.
Rather than focusing on gifts to give and receive, we can count the blessings we already have.
Real Estate Investors in Alberta have been humbled—for at least 5 years now. And with true grit and perseverance, most of us are surviving, some even thriving!
We’ve decided to share our Top 10 list of things we’re grateful for in 2020. Many are related to real estate investing in Alberta. We hope to inspire some of our colleagues to celebrate the blessings you already have.
- No vacancies at our rental properties in 2020! HUGE win!
- Fantastic tenants that we have been communicating with throughout the pandemic. One of our tenants even painted a fence for us—because he was bored and needed something to do (FREE for us! And a good job!)
- Mortgage paydown doesn’t care about COVID; we’re still making money on our properties! (Thanks tenants!)
- The gift of time—to organize all that “gorgeous” investor paperwork?! Learning and developing better systems.
- Twenty-five more Happy renovation clients in 2020.
- Wrestled a development permit through the process; work starts in early 2021 on a fabulous addition! Turning a cabin into a dream home.
- Our staff, trades and suppliers continue to be healthy and working hard.
- Our Joint Venture partners continue to have profits, while maintaining complete social distancing—because we are their working partner.
- Our little family is adapting to each change—our teenagers haven’t kicked us out yet! But really, in any other year, we would never be “allowed” to spend this much time with Highschool students. We are cherishing this time with them as university days (or other post-Secondary adventures) are rapidly approaching.
- We continue to enjoy the health and well-being of our extended family and friends. We celebrate the privilege of being part of some amazing online communities, where we can learn, share wins/losses/questions and simply be there for each other.
Before we look forward to 2021, we are privileged to share our top 10 list with you. Now we challenge our friends and colleagues to do this exercise for yourself, your business and/or your family. Some of you have had hard times. Try to find 10 things to be thankful for—no matter what else is going on.
And then, watch how good you feel as you finish your list. Just like Christmas is about more than just giving and receiving presents, real estate investing is about more than just buying houses and cashing cheques.
