How many times have we heard the phrase “I can’t” this month? But when we listen to what follows “I can’t” we realize there are, in fact, choices.
“I can’t change the colour of that product.”
Yes, it is possible, the product is even available=in stock. It simply requires a re-stocking fee, and some manual entry into the inventory software.
“I can’t do that job”
Yes, actually it simply involves re-scheduling that other commitment to a different day, or a different time of day.
“I can’t invest in real estate right now, there’s just too much uncertainty in the world with interest rates, and Ukraine, and inflation, …
Yes, there is uncertainty. No, this isn’t really a new thing. No one’s financial freedom waits for all those pesky ducks to line up in a row.
“I can’t sell my house right now, it needs too much work.”
There is rarely a perfect time to sell—and we often only realize it was perfect in hindsight. Selling properties is about finding the right buyer at the right price—there are so many choices here!
Both in our reno business, and with real estate investors, we have noticed an astonishing number of people these days with a learned helplessness. It’s as if we’ve learned to be victims of circumstance after enduring Covid for 2 years.
Yes, there is an abundance of problems still floating around. Stop thinking about the problems, and start focusing on solutions. Many of us seem to need to heal our mindset as much as anything else.
No more blaming Covid, or the government, or Monday morning for whatever issue just dropped in our lap. Life will continue to evolve, and things will continue to happen to us that are out of our control. But we always choose our response—and we believe every choice matters.
Recently, I had the privilege of sharing a lunch with some new immigrants to Canada. Their stories about all of the adversities and problems they faced – for years—were incredible. Setback after setback, uncertainty after uncertainty, roadblocks and questions galore. Even after landing on Canadian soil, the challenges continued, and in some cases multiplied!
But they remained focused on a better life for their family. Determined to pursue life in a country that values freedom, democracy and the potential for financial success. They could have so easily played a “victim” card, on so many occasions. They chose a hard path for financial freedom. Their story is awe-inspiring.
Please understand, I am not advocating high risk speculation. But a few hard choices, paired with perseverance and time, may hold the key to financial freedom for your family too.
I understand and appreciate the very real barriers to investing in anything these days! But we choose how we deal with each problem, obstacle, even hurdle that we face. We all have the ultimate responsibility to create our financial futures. If a current path isn’t working, or isn’t enough, then it’s time to pursue change with everything we’ve got. And then follow through. We’re ready to grow stronger, are you?!
