CELEBRATING SUMMER SUCCESSES
Anyone remember R.E.M.’s Shiny Happy People? It was a great tune in it’s day! Go find a song that picks you up. Yes, now. This weekend is simply too gorgeous to do anything other than celebrate and enjoy the fruits of your labours.
To our rental housing provider friends who have worked hard this summer to fill vacancies, manage move-outs, and prepare those student rentals: Phew! Job well done! Yes, there may have been an eviction or two in there. Yes, there may have been painting or extra clean up required. But you did it! Cheers!
To our flipper friends who continue to problem solve the ongoing supply chain challenges, great creativity has probably brought great solutions! Yes, and you probably used up some patience too. Persistence, developing relationships and quick pivots have helped you manage the ever-growing lack of trades people. But you did it! Put your feet up for a few minutes!
To our BRRR friends who powered through months of a refinance, only to be told “no,” and then move on to the next solution: Yikes! Who would have thought that something so simple could suddenly become so very convoluted. Recycling your capital is always a great strategy; you knew it and you powered through! On to the next real estate adventure!
To our builder friends, we tip our hat to your fortitude! Material costs are constantly changing, financing costs are rising while we pursue permits, and labour seems to follow whoever can pay the most! That precious and rare skilled-worker is almost worth more than gold these days! The country literally needs more brave souls like you builders to create housing and rental units. But this weekend, there are no emergencies. Just breathe, relax a little.
And to all of our colleagues who are selling or did sell a property this summer, wasn’t that a wild ride? People were fighting over deals in January! Then haggling over even small repairs by summer. But you did it! You put your head down and got the work done. For whatever reason, it was the right time to sell that property. We all look forward to your next success! But not now. Not this weekend.
These days it is so easy to get caught up in the negativity, divisiveness, and even fear-mongering about what the winter MIGHT bring.
STOP. Look at how far you’ve come in 2022 so far. No, I mean it, take a minute and really think about all the things you’ve already accomplished. Many of us are wired to set new and bigger goals with September’s school start, or simply the start of fall & winter. But wait, just a few days. A little time invested in rest will recharge your batteries for forward momentum.
Have you seen that weather?!?!! Today we need to celebrate, enjoy, and appreciate all the little successes. They all add up, even if you’re not yet where you want to be.
