LOST EXPLORERS
We have the treasure map, we’re on the path, but somehow the terrain looks different than what the map shows. The treasure seems more and more elusive even as we adjust course for this new mountain, that new roadblock, and exactly where is this big river on the map? Huh, going to need to find a way around/over or through it, I guess?
Does this sound like your real estate investing journey these days? The previous explorers have set out some good maps for us, but not all of them are working these days. Some treasure hunters are giving up, but some are doubling down—what choice works best for you? Do you see obstacles, or opportunities?
Carving a new path, or creating a new map, is truly daunting. But if thousands of our ancestors were able to figure it out, we can too. And we have our basic needs already covered: food, water, etc…. Imagine travelling across the Atlantic Ocean, wondering if your food supplies would last! So, time to figure things out and chart our new path forward with a dose of humility.
Newsflash: we don’t have all the answers. We don’t believe anyone does. Why? Because the game is changing so fast! But we do believe some experienced investors can offer us great principles and skills to guide our journey.
What’s our next move this fall? Connecting with other explorers. Yup, boring strategy. BUT, we think this is a great time for working together to problem solve. We have several learning opportunities already on the calendar. We’re networking with some amazing investors in September. And we’re reaching out to new and “old” team members to see their opinions and leverage their expertise. In our opinion, it’s time for beginner’s mind again.
This is much easier said than done. We’ll need to be in environments that minimize distractions, and avoid overwhelm. We’ll need to connect with people that look beyond the inflammatory headlines and dive into what’s really going on, today. We need to resist the temptation to get drawn into polarizing debates –good heavens, they’re everywhere, on almost every subject!
What would we recommend for Calgary investors in September, 2023? One place to get re-invigorated is the Fearless Real Estate Investors Facebook group. Yes, that’s right, I said Facebook group. There is a ton of valuable information in this group, for Fearless explorers who are looking for clues. And, specifically for Calgary real estate investors, there is an event September 23 with local experts. Can you imagine? A real LIVE event with other humans who are a little lost in the jungle, and other experts who can provide tips, techniques and guidance for the treasure hunt!
