ENERGY FLOWS WHERE ATTENTION GOES
Remember January 2020? New year, new decade, big aspirations …. Ya, so that year happened. Good, bad, or otherwise, the entire planet experienced that crisis—albeit, each of us in our own little worlds. Most of us have adapted, learned, and grown at least some resilience throughout the challenges.
NOW, January 1, 2021, it’s time to move on. How we choose to act and react will determine our path forward, for years, if not decades. Some will live in the fear zone, and continue to catastrophize (is that a real word now?). Some will desperately search for a life where they feel comfortable again—dare I even say “in control” of their lives. Or so they wish to believe.
And some of us will cautiously set our goals and visions for the coming year. Yes, there is still much uncertainty! But if the world’s best economists don’t have it all figured out yet—the rest of us humble humans cannot expect to see a clear path…yet.
We are choosing to enter 2021 embracing the chaos. We will be partly in the learning zone. Every day we will be paying attention to the big picture and the best experts we can follow. At the same time, we recognize that we simply must let go of the things we can’t control. We will not be wasting energy looking back, or pondering all the “coulda, woulda, shoulda’s.”
And that means focusing our attention (and massive energy) into the growth zone. We are continuing to take actions to move a little bit forward towards our WHY and our vision. We are preparing for valuable opportunities. We want to be part of the solutions and the recovery. We are actively searching for possibilities, and creating a strong foundation for our future selves.
Like the plants in the picture, this might not be the sexiest year for growth. We will nurture our roots, protect our young plant from any storms, and adapt to the changing landscape. One day, we will look back on this year in the real estate cycle and marvel at the changes that happened.
Real estate investors have a lot of similarities with plants and trees. Neither a strong plant, nor a life of financial freedom, are created overnight. We expect time will be required to pursue our full potential, and our goals. Of course we all wish for more sunshine and faster growth. But we’re keeping it real AND keeping it positive. In Alberta in 2021, we will be embracing cautious optimism. Our attention and our energy is now directed forward.
