Move over Clark Kent. Take a break Peter Parker. There are new superheroes in town!
Apparently, nothing works better to ignite a spark of patriotism than a bully nation threatening our economy and our sovereignty.
In an ironic twist, Mr. Trump’s attempt to Make America Great Again (MAGA), is having quite the opposite effect in our country. People and politicians have mobilized and are problem-solving faster than anyone could have believed! In fact, what appeared impossible back on January 1, 2025, is now being actively discussed and pursued. For example, would you ever have guessed (most of) the provinces would be openly considering an East-West pipeline? Could you have imagined all of the provincial leaders, and many of the large municipal leaders, would come together to actively find ways to make trading within our country easier?! And suddenly we value our military and are openly discussing increasing spending to the ideal 2% NATO target?!! The MAGA steamroller has lit a little fire of national pride—and almost magically business leaders and politicians are working side-by-side to Make Canada Great!
I’m not going all Pollyana here. Huge change will not come without plenty of hard work and sacrifices. Tough choices will be made. But I’m thrilled to see so many people standing up to the bully and trying to figure out a path forward.
Can you believe Trump hasn’t even been president for 3 full weeks yet? Canadians remain polarized on many issues, but Mr. Trump is uniting us in many ways too. I wonder if we’ll be able to build on this momentum and truly strengthen Canada as an independent nation and as an international economic partner in this global village. I imagine it will be a spicy G7 meeting in Kananaskis (our extended backyard) in June!
We’re supposed to write about Financial Freedom for real estate investors in and around Calgary, Alberta. But last night we attended the Calgary Home Builder’s Association (BILD Calgary) Economic Outlook. What a great opportunity to listen, learn and network with other entrepreneurs all focused on growing their businesses within a new Canada. Rarely has this country’s Financial Freedom been in such a spotlight. Whatever superhero cape each of you wears, we applaud every effort to Make Canada Great (and so much better than before)!
